I have thick, coarse, wavy hair and I know how difficult it can be to maintain its shape and prevent frizz. When the weather and my busy schedule get the best of me (I admit that I don't always adhere to my own rules), my style resembles Nick Nolte's mug shot.
Here are some hard learned lessons that will help you manage your textured mane
- A great cut is key. Find a stylist who knows how to add graduated layers that will reduce bulk while enhancing your hair's bend
- Curly hair is moisture starved, so be sure to deep condition at least once a week. My fave: Neuma's neuSmooth Revitalizing Masque.
- Try a styling cocktail. My hair responds best to a mix of Enjoy's Intensive Hair & Skin treatment oil
- After applying product to wet hair, leave it alone! I've found that the more I touch my hair as it's drying, the worse it looks. A few exceptions: If you need more lift on top, pop in a couple of duck bill clips, or gently wind select sections around fingers where you need help; i.e., I have a cowlick that doesn't always behave. At night, a few pincurls or a narrow curling iron can add extra pizzazz
