16 New Hair Colors That Scream Spring

Each year the winter fades away to reveal the beauty of spring! This season, take the cue of spring and shed your winter blues.

This springs hair colors are softer than years before, but still provide us with a multitude of choices. Warm shades of red, bold blondes and brilliant brunettes take your hair out of the dreary and into the springtime sun!

Rich Brunette

Adding shine and a subtle richness to brunette locks may not seems like a lot, but it makes a big difference! Ask your stylist for just a shine of mahogany.

Medium to darker skin tones look great in this rich hue, while hair that is medium to thick and long will match up closest to this picture.

Tip:

Dark hair needs TLC too! Weekly conditioning treatments will keep your tresses soft and shiny. My favorite is Pravana’s NEVO 60 Sec Deep Treat.

Bronze Beauty

Soft bronze hair is paired with lighter golden highlights that are painted on to create a soft and natural look. This color is being referred to as a “rose gold” on many of Hollywood’s leading ladies.

Paler skins tones that look great in light pinks, lilacs, and greens wear this color fabulously! Fine to medium hair that is naturally medium to dark blonde can achieve this soft color easily.

Tip:

Make sure to talk this color over with your stylist and make sure you are both on the same page as it can be interpreted very differently. Bringing pictures (or Pinterest on a phone or tablet!) is always a great idea.

Sombre

Ombres have softened up this season, creating the Sombre that features slightly lighter ends that melt into a darker base color.  No more harsh lines or bleach blonde ends this spring!

Any skin tone can wear this soft ombre, while hair that is in good condition (including the ends), and is starting off as a light brown (or lighter) is optimum to achieve this color combo.

Tip:

Remember that the goal of this color is to be a soft transition and may not pack the punch of ombres from past seasons. Chat with your colorist about the best way to achieve this look with your hair.

Bright Blonde

2014 is the year of the bold, bright blonde! Changing from the golden hues of last year, a platinum or silvery hue is right on point.

Light to medium skins tones work best with this light and bright hue. A must to have for very light hair is strength! If you have strong hair that is a dark blonde or lighter, this color will be easier to achieve.

Tip:

Lightening your hair is a process. You may not achieve this color in one visit with your colorist, depending on your starting color and if you have previously colored your hair. Be patient and talk strategy with your colorist.

Golden Copper

A soft, golden copper paired with face framing highlights brightens your face and eyes this spring! Flowing curls makes this a style that can easily move from day to night.

Light skinned beauties that look good in purples, greens and pinks wear this color nicely, while hair that is starting at dark blonde and is medium to fine can carry this style best.

Tip:

To keep face framing highlights looking natural, have your stylist paint them on, keeping them an inch to two away from the scalp and softly blending in.

Brunette Goddess

Warm rich brunette with slightly lighter brown highlights creates a soft and flattering color that will get you attention all over this spring!

Medium to dark skin tones that look good in warm browns and violets carry this color nicely, while hair that is naturally dark already and in great condition will transition to this color wonderfully!

Tip:

To achieve a color similar to the picture, you want to make sure that the highlights don’t take over. Spaced out highlights that are a shade or two lighter work best. Make sure to discuss this with your colorist.

A Day at the Beach

A sandy “bronde” hair color makes summer feel right around the corner! It’s not quite brown and it’s not quite blonde, but this color will not have you guessing whether or not you love it!

Fair to medium skin tones look great in this bronde color. Hair that is naturally curly or wavy and starting at a light brown or dark blonde can easily achieve this hue.

Tip:

Before choosing a colorist, check them out online! Most have websites and social media pages displaying their work. Also, book a consultation to discuss your new color before diving in!

Soft Auburn

Want rich hair with out being too over the top? This soft auburn is just for you! It creates a stunning base for curls, waves and flowing straight hair, too.

Light to medium skin tones that look great in greens and violets will look great in this color as well. Wavy hair that is medium to thick can achieve this style easily.

Tips:

Creating a darker shadow at the base of this hair color gives depth and an easier grow out. Ask your stylist for their recommendation.

A Touch of Violet

A slight glaze of violet in this dark brown will be gorgeous in the spring sun and more subdued indoors!

Best Skin Tone and Hair Type:

Medium skin tones that look great in violets, dark reds and dark greens wear this color nicely.  Hair that is medium brown or lighter is the best starting point to achieve this slight violet hue.

Tip:

Talk to your stylist if you have blonde highlights. They will need to take care to not make your highlights bright purple and they can recommend the right shampoo to prevent fading.

Blonde Bomb

Bright blonde hair is right on trend this season! Going with a soft platinum keeps your skin looking great while you work on getting your summer tan.

Light to medium skin tones that love to wear pinks, lavenders and blues will be the bomb in this color. Starting with a natural color of dark blonde or lighter will be the easiest to achieve this bright blonde.

Tip:

When you are rocking light blonde hair, it’s important to take extra care of it! Weekly conditioning treatments, heat protecting products and the right shampoo are a MUST.

Soft Ombre Highlights

The hottest way to lighten up this summer is to add soft blonde highlights blending out of your warm brown hair. It will brighten up your look without being too bold as past seasons ombres.

Any skin tone can add these soft ombre highlights into their current color, while hair that is healthy (at the ends especially) is crucial for achieving this color.

Tip:

Love this look, but have a different base color than the picture? That’s ok! You can still add these ombre highlights in red, copper, bronze, brunette and golden hues. They all look great with lighter ends!

Multi-Tonal Mahogany

Adding different dark and lighter shades of mahogany into your hair creates a tone on tone texture that looks amazing straight, wavy, curly or braided!

Best Skin Tone and Hair Type:

Skin tones that look great in deep blues, violets and reds look great in this mahogany tone on tone color. Thick hair that has some wave or curl to it will achieve this style easy.

Tip:

To amp this color up, you can also add different shades of reds or violet in with the mahogany color.

Ginger Spice

Rich, gingery copper hair with subtle sparks of red make for a natural looking color that will turn heads everywhere you go this spring season!

Fair to light skin tones that tend to look best in pinks, greens and corals wear this color like it’s their own! Any hair type can wear this color, while hair that is medium to thick in texture and has some length is required to achieve this amazing braid.

Tip:

Red and copper hair is the hardest to keep and to change to a cooler hue. Consult with your stylist on shampoos and conditioners that they recommend to keep your red bright and beautiful!

Golden Brunette

Dark and lovely with just a hint of gold, this brilliant brunette hue will brighten up your mane for spring and keep you looking lovely!

Best Skin Tone and Hair Type:

Any skin tone can really wear this hue and look amazing, while hair that is medium to light brown is a great starting point for your colorist to create this lovely tone.

Tip:

To create these beautiful curls, try pulling out your old hot rollers! Use the largest ones, and let them cool completely before running your fingers through them and pinning your sides up.

Blondie!

It’s the hot color this spring that we can’t get enough of! Maybe blondes will be having more fun this season?

Long Blonde Hair Color with Curls

Best Skin Tone and Hair Type:

Lighter skin tones that look great in teals, pinks and purples wear this platinum color best, while hair that is starting out a dark blonde or lighter will be the easiest to achieve this color.

Tip:

If you are starting out with color already in your hair and wanting to go platinum blonde, you may want to consult with your stylist before making the appointment, especially if you do not see them regularly.  They may need extra time or need to perform color removing services before the actual color. It is always better to meet for a consultation than to be told there isn’t enough time today!

Dark and Lovely

Rich, dark hair is never out of style! Keeping it simple in an all over color with incredible shine will have you answering the question “Who does your hair?” everywhere you go!

Rich Dark All Over Hair Color

Best Skin Tone and Hair Type:

Darker to medium skin tones look best in this dark hue, while hair that is already on the darker side makes it easier to keep up with. A light, natural color will have you going in more regularly for touch-ups.

Tips:

Keep that shine going between visits! My favorite shine product is Pravana’s Kera Glaze. It strengthens your hair and adds incredible shine, all at home!

This seasons hair colors take a softer approach than years past, but still give us some amazing trends that are easy to achieve and rock out. Take a chance this season and give your hair some new life. And remember, summer is just around the corner!
